6-24-06 – The American Radio Relay League is holding disaster drills across the country, including Ardmore this weekend. Organizers set up towers to allow amateur radio operators to practice in case of emergencies.
Operators, some from as far as Canada, communicated with each other in mock disasters. The Red Cross says licensed ham radio operators are vital if radio waves become bombarded and communication lines are down.
The Southern Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross operates a communication center in their Ardmore office. They encourage volunteers to become certified to help.
