6-26-06 - The search for a missing Van Alstyne man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease ended positively on Sunday. The 79-year-old man walked away from his home in the 300 block of White Oak Drive, west of Van Alstyne, but rescuers found him 3 hours later in a corn field.
Local law enforcement and 1st responders combined on the search. Dozens of personnel, including a large number of Grayson County deputies, helped to find the victim. A DPS helicopter spotted the man around 2:00pm, approximately 200 yards into a cornfield. The missing man was laying in the sun at the edge of the tree line in a fetal position
The victim was flown to a Dallas hospital where he was treated for heat exhaustion and exposure. He should recover.
