7-29-06 - A Texas family is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for dozens of cases of vandalism at Sherman’s West Hill Cemetery. 33 headstones were knocked over and damaged sometime during Father’s Day Weekend.
John and Barbara Clopton from Johnson County, Texas put up the reward when they arrived in Sherman on Thursday and discovered the damage. A maintenance worker first noticed the vandalism the morning of June 19th. Police believe the crime occurred sometime between that day and the previous Friday.
Police say there were no witnesses to the crime, and at this time, they don't have any leads. They're asking for anyone with information to please contact them at (903) 892-7290.
The Sherman parks director says the city will repair as many stones as possible. It is a job that will cost at least $2,000 in manpower alone.
