Katie Couric, who will become the Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News on September 5, visited the Dallas/Fort Worth area on Tuesday as part of "Eye on America," a six-city tour to talk
with people across the country about the issues of interest to them.
Couric met with members of the community in an informal town meeting to learn about the kind of news stories they'd like to see covered, both
locally and nationally.
During her visit to North Texas, Couric was also the keynote speaker at
two fundraising events to benefit local chapters of the American Cancer Society.
Couric, 49, begins her new role as CBS Evening News Anchor and Managing Editor on September 5. She will be the first female solo anchor of a network weekday newscast, following such esteemed journalists as Douglas Edwards, Walter Cronkite and most recently, Dan Rather and Bob Schieffer. She will also be a 60 MINUTES correspondent and anchor CBS News primetime specials.
