SHERMAN, TX ― An investigation is underway into the shooting death of an elderly man in Sherman. After an 80-year-old man was found shot to death in his Sherman home on Wednesday, now Sherman police are investigating how the man died and why. Rita Kotey has more.
Authorities say that the investigation into the death of Clyde Guess has been ruled a homicide. Guess was found dead of a gunshot wound in his home at the corner of Brockett and Maxey in Sherman last week.
Officers will not say why they are investigating this case as a homicide, or if any suspects or a motive have been identified yet.
What they do tell us is that a 911 call was placed from inside his home on Wednesday morning, but no one was on the line when dispatchers answered that call.
When officers arrived at Mr. Guess’s home, they found the back door wide open.
Police say the circumstances surrounding guess's death *are suspicious, and they are trying to collect as much information as possible.
Neighbors like Marie Lupacio say they are concerned about what has happened in their community.
"I was very worried about it because it was right here around my house. I was very worried about him," Ms. Lupacio said.
Sergeant Bruce Dawsey says Sherman police are offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information in the shooting is asked to contact detective Larry Atherton at 903-892-7335.
