Weather Aware conditions continue overnight due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 7 a.m. for the northernmost portions of Texoma including Atoka, Coal, Johnston, Murray and Pontotoc Counties Beware of flooded road-ways and never drive around barricades or into water more than six inches deep. 7-15-06 – A 16-year-old from Paris, Texas drowned at a state park in Oklahoma Saturday morning. Divers recovered the body of Dakota Tye Allen at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in 15 feet of water, 20 feet from the bank.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Allen swam to a platform in a swimming beach area on the Mountain Fork River of Beavers Bend State Park in Mc Curtain County around 11:30 a.m. The victim jumped off the platform, came out of the water, and then got into trouble. Allen went back under and never resurfaced.
He was transported to McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel and pronounced dead at 1:07 p.m.
