7-17-06 The fight to keep teachers close to home is not just between Texas and Oklahoma anymore. Several local schools, including Denison and Sherman, are looking at ways to keep teachers from going to DFW for better jobs.
The Denison School District is proposing a $3500 pay raise for new teachers starting this fall. That's $1000 more than the state mandates.
The superintendent says over the past few years, they've lost applicants as well as current educators to better paying jobs in the DFW Metroplex.
Denison's school board will decide on the raise in tomorrow night's budget meeting. Other districts planning to give entry level teachers more than required: Sherman, Melissa, and Anna.
