7-20-06 The Springer Volunteer Fire Department got a new set of wheels on Thursday thanks to Carter County leaders.
Back in November when they were battling wildfires in the area, they had trouble getting enough water to the scene. So they asked commissioners to pitch in.
The county ordered the cab and chassis but built the rest themselves. It holds more than 1800 gallons and can convert into a brush truck as well.
The $70,000 to buy the truck came from district one's budget.
