GRAYSON CO., Tex -- TxDOT crews are busy repairing an area road after several accidents. The most recent one, injuring a motorcyclist. Now TxDOT is working to prevent future accidents and keep drivers safe.

Crews were out repairing a stretch of FM 121 Wednesday that may have played a role in causing a crash.

FM 121 is riddled with cracks and dips that motorists tell us they try to avoid.

The most recent wreck happened on FM 121 between Tioga and Gunter. Witnesses say the man driving the motorcycle hit one of those cracks and crashed.

While neither his injuries nor his passenger's were life-threatening, witnesses on the scene say the rough road was to blame.

So now TxDOT is working to patch up trouble spots until the road is resurfaced next summer.

TxDOT engineers say the weather may be to blame for the cracks in that stretch of highway.

"The dry weather we have been experiencing for the last several months has caused the ground to shift and that has caused some longitudinal cracking," said TxDOT Assistant Area Engineer, Noel Paramanatham.

TxDOT has put up rough road signs and lowered the speed limit until that resurfacing project is scheduled for August of 2009.

Tx Dot needs to inspect the roads more often if they think the weather created the conditions only a few months ago. This road has been terrible for atleast 20 years Ive lived here.

What about the Pipe Liners. Their trucks have been running up and down our road for months. Should they have some responsibility of the cost in repaving it?

fm 121 has been dangerous since 1960 as far as i know. drove it for many years and was always something, flooded, large trees down, large cracks, HOLES, poor sides with wash outs and poorly maintained;also, narrow and winding to boot. very dangerous road.

Maybe everyone who wants to ride motorcycles should ride dirt bikes, they are more suited for the roads. Thats why most of us drive 4-wheel drive trucks.
