SHERMAN, Tex. ― Police in Sherman seized $180,000 worth of meth in what they call one of the biggest meth houses they have ever seen. Rashi Vats has more.

The Sherman Police Department held a press conference this morning describing what they are calling one of the biggest meth busts in the past 10 years.

Police served a search warrant in the 1200 block of North Branch Street in Sherman. Inside, police found more than 4 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $180,000. Police also found more than $23,000 in cash.

Sherman police say they arrested three men, all in their twenties and reportedly illegal immigrants from Mexico. Police say all three are at the Grayson County Jail, placed under a federal immigration hold.

"They have a hold placed on them through ICE for immigration, and there will be an additional set of charges placed in addition to the 4 pounds of methamphetamine," Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department said.

The Sherman Police Department says that their cooperation with the Denison Narcotics Division is what made the bust possible.

The next step is a civil forfeiture hearing.

i'm with you kay. they come over illegal as they please then they have those babies on our dime, every single mexican should be shipped back to mexico, if they are not from mexico then let mexico worry about that. only if they are illegal mexicans. i have no problem with the ones that are legal whose families have been here for generations. that can speak english and do speak it. spanish should be spoke behind closed doors not in public where i have to listen to it. It's only when illegals are arrested we are able to voice our feelings about illegals. Allow me to say this, at a church function within the past word I was helping out at a dinner. I was approached by a hispanic and asked her if she wanted some bbq sauce with her brisket. She replied, (and this is what it sounded to me) "blah blah blah blah". Since I don't understand the Spanish language, I politely said to her, "I'm sorry I don't understand" she repeated her "blah blah blah blah" I once again apologized to her I didn't understand, at that point she snapped at me, rolled her eyes and said "Just a little" I then said why she didn't say that in the first place she snapped back at me with "Well you need to learn to speak SPANISH". The woman next me told the woman "if we were in Mexico we'd have to speak Spanish, so why don't you speak English??" She just walked away

You have the right to speak how you please? I also have the right to ignore the *%#@ out of you. My brother said years ago that Mexicans (illegals) make themselves 2nd class citizens. Not racist. To compete in the world today- you have to speak the language of the country you live in. If I go to Japan (or any other non-English speaking country in the world), if I can't speak that language--I make myself a second class citizen. The citizens of that country are not going to respect you like they would if you had the respect to learn their language. So, weather you are from Mexico-Germany-Poland(anybody remember the Polish guy that killed 10 people out on south 75-my neighbor had to translate)please have the respect to learn the language.

Sure, ship them back to Mexico so they can turn right back around and come back to my home. I would much rather pay taxes to keep them in our jail for the rest of their lives then pay for their healthcare, food, housing, while they run the streets selling drugs. Better yet, just string them up.

There are aproximately billions of people in this world that live on $2.43 a day, And you can't understand why people die to get over here? Whats wrong with teaching our children culture? There are plenty of studies to support multi-language teaching being very beneficial to their studies.It also shows tolerance which if your against illegal immigration fine but if your against teaching your kids another language which could be anything,that i do not understand.If we sent all of our children overseas to live and teach they will understand the meaning of appreciation and not the latest trends that parents seem to garnish to kids before values.

To Midniteryder I appreciate your history lesson that you have provided however it does not change my mind I am a tax paying citizen and I know the everday struggles that have happened in my life alone and what I have had to do to make ends meet. Many years ago-in a land far,far away-there were decent paying jobs. Remember when road construction was a very sought after job, paid dang well. Then the contractors found they could teach the illegals how to do the job--"hey their ellegal - we can pay them less,cause their not going to say anything" Now- instead of $20 or $25 an hour(and that was years ago)--it's what $15 an hour. If people want to immegrate,fine-legally. Then demand proper wages, then you won't have to work two jobs. No, your not doing jobs Americans won't do- but you allow them to pay you substandard wages. I have friends from Germany--their German, England-English-Poland-Polish---MEXICO-MEXICANS -they shouldn't be ashamed of where they come from.

That's where I draw the line, I will not hire anyone and pay cash unless they can prove that they pay taxes like I do. I thought about moving to sherman. But ther are some many over in sherman and i don't want to live around that stuff. They bring down the place parking in the yard and having old junk cars. I mean they have them in all races of people but for some reason they have more from the hispanic's. I think it is they do not ticket them for doing wrong the cops just say well they are mexicans they con't know. So you haters out there mean to tell me that you want to leave my kids without a loving mother who cleans other people's houses for very little money just because she came into this country illegaly? Did you know that it takes 5 years in order for a foreign immigrant to be considered serious for a working visa? And it takes another 5 years in order to become a citizen? So these poor people had no other choice but to break a stupid law in order to work for very little money in order to save their familes back home from dying of starvation and illnesses. I guess I am not that surprised considering our area is the "Meth Capital" of the USA. Yes, these three young men should pay for their crimes including being here illegally and destroying our community with drugs, but to label all undocumented immigrants as criminals is absurd. I am 65yrs old and I have bi-racial grandchildren, and I hate to see that in the year 2008, there is still hate towards minorities. My ancestors were once considered "property" and not humans so I can sympathize with these hardworking people who just want a better life. I live on Branch St., 3 blocks from this particular house and for the record, there have not been "illegals, Hispanics, Mexicans, or any other such ethnicity walking, creeping, ect.. up and down this street. Meth. is not the drug of choice of most African americans, this was obviously a drop and pick-up house and the traffic would have used cars to and from the location. The anger and racial anxiety is missed-placed, and if we would look after our neighbor's goods and neighborhood wellbeing and stop trying to stereotype a particular group of people, ther is no doubt in my mind that we could avert any such corruption from entering our city and endangering our children. Let us keep our eyes open and our mouths shut until we have something helpful and constructive to say. Life is too short for irrational, small minded behaviour. Let us support our local Law Enforcement and bring about positive change that promotes and build our community. Lets Love each other a little bit more everyday.

I take it you do not live in a neighborhood so full of illegals that you can easily sleep at night because their music is so loud it sounds like a Rolling Stone concert--nor do you have to lock everything you own into storage just to keep it from being stolen during the night, the illegals prowl the streets all night looking for whatever they can steel. The police do try to stop them but they just take off and run in different directions to prevent being caught.

Love Guru I am American Indian. Did you know that the Mexican government once placed bounties on Apache scalps for silver? Look it up if you don't believe me. The Apaches actually wanted to help U.S. troops rid the southwest of Mexican Nationals and Mexican solders due to the animosity between Mexicans and American Indians. This was during the American/Mexican war. There was no love lost between American Indians and Mexico.

My heart breaks for the level of ignorance and bigotry being written throughout a majority of these posts. The "Our Country" argument is not very solid as everyone except American Indians are immigrants at some point in their family trees. Another weak excuse is the job loss... it's not the fault of any one people, it's the business owners that make decisions to lay off American workers for laborers willing to work for less. So greed should be the sin creating this disparity for which you cry. What makes this country great is the fact that America takes people in who want to make a better life for themselves and enjoy the same freedoms that we all do. America is a land of dreams and prosperity that should be shared with others. Love one another, give people a chance, get to know your neighbors, do something nice for complete strangers, etc. Less hatred, fewer excuses, and more of God's love is all that is needed.

The contractors running the mexican crews have work. My son pays his employees well, so he has to bid higher. Of course the quality of the owrk shows. I noticed where a mexican crew poured a patio. It was horrible, you could see the rock in it - it was all honey-combed, like I said - it was horrible. But, in this case, you get what you pay for. Oh, yea - he takes the time to pay the taxes on his jobs, too.

1st off, this story has little to do with immigration. It has everything to do with the meth habits of people in Texoma. There is a high demand. Some people just chose not to address that (and good job law enforcement!) and instead are taking blame out on illegals. There are plenty of citizens that make meth too, is it really any worse that an undocumented does it too? As for "dishonest work" why would you blame somebody for taking advantage of an opportunity to better his/herself and/or provide for their family better? That makes no sense. I'd be foolish not to do that myself. It would make more sense to blame EMPLOYERS that provide them opportunities and to demand that the government reform laws so that the illegals that supposedly live off welfare can't (i'm not saying that they do, but if they actually do, don't let them). Again, you cannot blame somebody for taking care of himself or his family, that's being HUMAN. Stop demonizing people. It's Nazi Germany all over again

I am tired of being run out of my neighborhood for illegals. There are 3-5 families that live in 1 3 bedroom house. That is how they drive nice cars. Rent is $600.00 and between 3 families, well you figure their part of the rent. Drive around and you can see 4-6 cars up in the yard and in the street. Get papers to live here or get out. Teach your kids English. Our teachers have it hard enough, but having to teach your kids to speak the correct language shouldn't be their job. Yes, there are some of you that do work hard, but for the most part, all I can see is all these families in 1 home, outside drinking their beer. At least you are keeping the beer companies in business. Way to go Sherman PD. Now get all of these drug dealers, rather they are white, black or hispanic.

Good, I am glad to know that these three criminals were caught. I think that they want to be deported because they won't have to serve time in jail otherwise, so I hope they serve time for their crime...HOWEVER! My grandparents came to the US illegally in 1970, but became US Citizens after the 1986 amnesty. My parents were both born here, as well as myself and my siblings. My parents speak perfect Spanish and English, and I am beginning to take classes to improve my spanish. So to all of you people saying that illegals won't melt into the great melting pot, I am living proof that you are wrong. All of this hate towards these hardworking people is nothing more than fear and racism. Illegals can come from Chile, Honduras, Argentina, and nonhispanic countries like Canada, Poland, Kenya, etc. Not all "illegals" are draining country via welfare, Lord knows there are plenty of rednecks and American borns that do that. Also, studies have shown that undocumented residents commit crimes at lesser rates than natural born US Americans. For people that complain that Mexicans took their jobs, what kind of position/education did you have where you had your job "taken" by an undocumented resident willing to work twice as hard for half the money. Thanks to immigrants and Wal-Mart, inflation has slowed down and there is a workforce willing to bust their butts for your lazy spoiled butts.
