07-31-06 - The city of Colbert is digging deeper to find an answer to the shortage of water.
The crews broke ground about 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon in the southeast corner of the city park looking for a new source to keep the water flowing. Officials with the city say they could drill down as far as 1,000 feet.
A drilling company from Atoka was hired to try and find a deeper aquifer. Right now, the wells only run about 100 feet deep, but that hasn’t been enough to keep up with the city’s demand for water.
Water superintendents with the city say if crews don't find a water source, they'll look someplace else and continue to look for other options.
The city plans to hold future town meetings in the coming weeks to discuss solutions for the water problem.
