08-03-06 - More money is coming into the Durant economy. Economic developers say sales tax revenues are skyrocketing.
Sales tax revenue rose a record breaking 28 % this July over the same period last year. Economic developers say it's from laborers on the job and spending their money around town.
In the city of Durant, 20 major construction projects are underway. Each of them is populated by hundreds of workers, who buy gas and food from local merchants.
Economic developers say the sales tax money goes right in to the city infrastructure, helping fund things like road repairs, and fire and police departments.
According to the department of commerce, Bryan county was the fastest growing county in population and employment growth rates this past year.
