What Black Friday is to traditional brick and mortar stores, Cyber Monday is to online retailers.

Today marks the online retail industry's ceremonial kickoff for the holiday shopping season. The National Retail Federation says more than 80 percent of retailers will have special promotions online today, up from last year.

The group's Shop.org division says this is also a big day for people to do some holiday shopping online at work. It says most people do it during their lunch hour.

The group has its own portal, featuring hundreds of merchants, where you can find some special promotions at http://www.cybermonday.com.

Online sales have been down this year, according to e-commerce tracking firm ComScore, but Thanksgiving Day and Friday online sales together were up compared to last year.

Most Texomans we talked with seem to be doing more of their holiday shopping online.

“As non-traditional as it is, it's probably the best route and timesaving and money saving. It's okay if people trust it. I just don't trust it. I'm sure there's a lot of things to choose from that I’m not really sure,” one Texoma resident told us.
