SHERMAN, TX ― The Sherman Independent School District is running on a $1.8 million deficit. Now school board members are set to decide what cuts they could be making. Monday night's board meeting concluded with several options to be considered.

School board officials meeting Monday night said before the meeting that they are starting the process of balancing the districts budget, which this year entails making some major cuts.

The rollback election in November failed, putting Sherman ISD in a tough situation. Because of state legislative changes, Sherman ISD's revenue was frozen for the 2005-2006 funding.

School officials say they are already running on a $1.8 million deficit, and Monday night’s meeting is the start of a two-week process that will determine what budget cuts will be made.

Sherman school board president Dr. John Hendricks says, "We begin a process that this school board never wanted, and being good stewards of taxpayer dollars will be at the forefront of the decisions we make."
