08-18-06 – A grass fire burning in the Arbuckle Mountains in southern Oklahoma is now under control and firefighters are working to make sure it doesn't flare up again.
Davis Police Chief Dan Cooper says firefighters were able to keep the flames away from cabins and homes in the area around Falls Creek and Turner Falls. He says about 2,500 acres are burned. Cooper says there are no serious injuries but five people were treated for heat-related problems. Some homes were evacuated but residents were allowed to return Friday morning.
Sections of Interstate 35 and U-S Highway 77 were closed for several hours because of thick smoke in the area Thursday but I-35 reopened Thursday night while 77 was reopened about 5 Friday morning.
