Winter weather has wreaked havoc on many of Texoma’s roadways this Tuesday as temperatures remain below freezing into the afternoon.

After many Texas and Oklahoma schools made the decision to not hold classes Tuesday, many drivers quickly learned that the roads were indeed slippery.

Three people were injured in a wreck in Denison on U.S. Highway 75 just before Spur 503 caused by slick conditions. We’re told traffic on U.S. 75 in Van Alstyne and Howe was at a standstill for much of the day due to ice patches on the highway. U.S. Highway 82 also remains slick in places Tuesday.

Across the Red River, travel conditions are just as treacherous in Oklahoma. Interstate 35 throughout Texoma has been a trouble spot all day long, with numerous wreck reported. We’ve also received reports of wrecks on Ardmore city streets. ODOT says travel on Interstate 35 on south from Oklahoma City is not advised.

Of course, watch First News at Five, Six, and Ten for COMPLETE coverage on this ongoing winter weather event.

If you need to find out specific travel information call the Texas Road Condition Hotline at (800) 452-9292 or the Oklahoma Road Condition Hotline at 1-888-425-2385 or click here for more local road conditions online.

Is that you? My chicago neighbor? Nebraska gal here! I bet you figure this out! To the person complaining about who gets off and who doesn't. We are all adults and we are all aware how each of our jobs run, so if you have to work with the bad weather I'm sure those folks knew that before hand, some things are a given with some occupations so whats your point? It sounds to me YOU did not want to get out and work, and yes i would not expect the hospital or the road workers, or the hotels to shut down either. Some things are just common sese.

I grew up in Chicago, lived there for 22 years, and I will be the first to tell you that driving on snow is MUCH different than driving on ice. People have a real reason to be cautious with ice, AND snow here. From what I've seen so far, most southern states don't have fleets of snow trucks equipped with plows and salt to help keep the roads safe.

To Anonymous: You must have been the idiot driving 70 mph on the stretch of hwy covered in ice between spur 503 and Sherman. Keep laughing and come talk to us during tornado season. We'll calm you down when the first tornado watch is issued this spring.

Hey Tom the only thing wild about the weather the last two days was the completely inaccurate, inadequate nowhere near on target weather forcast.

midniteryder. Thanks for proving my point.

Well unless the Government employee lied, I was advised by that person AND know for a fact they didn't have to drive, they are able to stay home if their children are out of school. NOT all Government workers work in a office, so maybe you dont know what your talking about or your facts. I appreciate the workers that do have to be out there. BUT NOT everyone that works has the option to staying in was the point I was making in the first posting. Thanks you.

The poster below who made a wise remark about "government" staff being able to stay home during the winter weather needs to be better informed: most governments workers were on duty throughout this dangerous period. Many worked extra hours, in dangerous conditions, to help keep roadways safe for those who did venture out. Sweeping generalizations do not help anyone. If you can stay home in such weather, please do so. If you can't, carpool to reduce traffic. Heed warnings and drive carefully. Let us all help each other, get better informed and keep our community safer. May take a little more energy that calling names, but in the end, we will all be better for it.

What a unhappy putz.. The name says it all = "Anonymous"

Man, Monday night it was bad. NIGHT time, majority of people don't work at NIGHT. Now, no schools should have been closed. It wasn't that bad. Especially since this didn't even scratch the surface of what happened in what was it? February or March? Now that was a snow storm like no other in Grayson County.

I moved here from the North and have lived here for almost 30 years and comments from anonymous give all northerns a bad name. And snow is a lot different than ice. No mater how good you think you can drive, when it comes to ice the best thing to do is stay off the roads if you can but if you must get out don't drive like your on dry roads. i agree with midniteryder, if you don't like it hear go back up where you can get more of snow and ice to play on.

Ice is much different than snow!!!! Anonymous that is from the north...have you watched the news lately. Many states up north are almost at a standstill because of all the ice. They are getting alot of ice on top of the snow. Makes for extremely hazardous conditions. So you say people in Texoma can't drive on ice, who can?!!! Even the folks up north are struggling! Cars and ice on roads don't mix! I live about an hour east of Austin and we even had some ice on metal elevated surfaces, so I can only imagine how bad it is 5 hours north of me!!!

To Anonymous on Dec. 16th with the wisecracks about us Texomans- which Northern state did you come from (or worse, are you from California?)? I'm a longtime Midwestern native who spent quite a few years of my life in the Rocky Mountain West as well, and I know about winter weather. That's one of the things I like about this area- not as much snow. Lemme give you a bit of advice, one damYankee to another- keep your opinions about how folks drive around here in the winter to yourself. NObody here gives a rat's fuzzy how it's done in Illinois or wherever. If it bothers you, remember- US69 runs north just as easily as it runs south. Just trying to keep you safe, that's all......

Well I know Some peoples employers expect them to be their weither the weather is bad or not. Not an option,,,, NOT all people work for the school system that can just call in and get a sub. Or for the Government office workers that are automatically off if their children are out. Some people were out due to either on the way home from a job or on the way to that job. So dont say That all were out and of not of importance. Some people have to have that income so They had to or felt the need to be at work. But for those that felt like they just had to shop, I don't feel sorry for them and yes they could of and should be at home in weather like this.

WOW Merrily mentioning a snow flake makes you pepole drive off the road. No wonder there are so many redneck jokes about you people. All these closings. Why? I moved here this summer and I don't get all this winter weather scare. I woke up this morning to the news and I thought there was 2' of ice on the road. I guess any excuse not to work will do.

"If ppl were out there then it wasn't for anything important." ??? Not every has a boss nice enough to not let them come in. And with it being a couple of weeks shy of the end of the year....how many people do you think really have time saved up anymore?

Posted by: Blue on Dec 16, 2008 at 04:28 PM
I think that van on it's side belongs to Red. I hope he is ok

Posted by: Rick Location: Sherman on Dec 16, 2008 at 04:20 PM
Man, I feel for the people that may have been hurt. There have been idiots (yes, I know...Idiots in Texoma?!!!) that tried to do too much when it iced over. If ppl were out there then it wasn't for anything important.
