SHERMAN, Tex. ― Winter weather might have put a halt to your traveling plans, but it has also put a halt on construction projects. Rashi Vats talked to TX-DOT officials and explains the reasons behind the shutdown.

The Texas Department of Transportation says they have put their road construction to a temporary hiatus because of the cold weather.

Construction all through U.S. Highway 75, on FM 1417, and on State Highway 56 is at a standstill. TX-DOT officials say the holidays do play a role in the delay for the construction, but since freezing temperatures and precipitation arrived in Texoma, the delay will be now longer.

"Construction materials have temperature control, and when the temperature reaches so cold they cannot place certain materials on the ground. Plus, the safety of the workers too," TX-DOT area engineer Noel Paramanantham says.

TX-DOT officials say depending on the weather, construction projects should be up and running again in the next couple of weeks.
