DENISON, Tex. ― About 350 Denison families registered with the minor rehab program need plumbing and roof repairs to their homes, but city officials say residents may have to wait at least two years for assistance.

They say a grant given by the Department of Housing and Urban Development is not enough to go around.

Officials say there is money for emergency needs as well, but they say families affected by last week’s tornado may not be able to receive assistance because they may not be in the right income bracket.

Officials say eligible families are already on a waiting list.

"We just work our way through the waiting list until when we run out of money. We stop, we will wait until HUD sends the next grant. When the next grant comes, we pick up where we left off on the waiting list," Tom Speakman, director of community development for the City of Denison, says.

Speakman says HUD continues to decrease the amount they give every year, so wait time could be longer in the future.

I'm so sick and tired of this Bs People are getting poorer by the minute while I hear of more getting rich thruogh scams and bailouts.Eight years of an idiot for a President has left this country broke and its middle class devastated.I doubt we will ever recover.

People in other countries don't even have electricity and running water. It won't hurt to wait.
