SHERMAN, Tex. ― Christmas came early for some Sherman residents while they were on their lunch break Tuesday.

Sources say a man went to Cellarman’s Grill & Bar on Texoma Parkway and began giving out rolls of quarters and new gold coins to diners. They say he even tipped the waitress $600!

We were also told the do-gooder was in Durant buying groceries for needy families.

Some say they are shocked at his kindness, but thrilled that he is thinking of others this season.

Why dont we just say:"God Bless this gentleman" and then do something nice for someone else-regardless of what they drive?? Merry Christmas-remember the Reason for the Season!

pay it forward forget that I will not pay for someone behind me driving an Escalade

wish he would have helped the animal shelters that are full of homeless pets

Anyone ever hear of the term pay it forward? Those that received anything from the guy might think about doing the same for someone else when they can. I've paid for a carload of human's meals behind me in a drive through. It's really kind of cool, because you feel good about it and they are friggin stunned and you are gone eating your fries before they even think about any thanks! I can only hope they will think & do the same for someone else.

Tracy, Thanks for saying that. I was brought up not to look a gift hoursre in the mouth. Just appreciate what I was given. Im only 35. I now see my kids looking their gift horses in the mouth. This year they are learning a very valuable lesson. The each will have to give up one of their gifts for a resident of a nursing home so that person will have a Christmas they otherwise would not have had. I asked the question where my kids would have learned not being appreciative, the answer is not me, it is todays society. kids think they have to have everything handed to them regardless of cost and then how long do the care about that item. It is never long before they move on to wanting something else. Whatever the newest trend is.

He is a good man I know him I go to church with him, I dont know how much he has given but I do know that he has given from his heart and has no greed at all. So leave him alone and those who have been helping him through all the bad talk I'm sure he thanks you! Merry Christmas everyone

I think it's pathetic the Sherman PD can't be bothered to do their job, however, they can find the time to harass an innocent citizen trying to do a good deed. Way to go Sherman PD, another fine example y'all have set....

He was a good man doing an amazing out of the ordinary good thing, wanting nothing from anyone but joy. I was there, I heard him talking to everyone he met. He made a positive impression on me, my employees, and all the other people he spoke to. He didn't even want recognition for what he was doing. He wouldn't give his name and said he was just passing thru, but I found out otherwise. I know people who go to church w/ him. He is a good person who is doing well financially and passing it on to those less fortunate. Why can't people just take it for what it is? GOODNESS, plain and simple. The people complaining have probably never done anything nice or unselfish in their lives, that's why they don't understand what he was doing. They are the ones who don't like where or who it was given out to or think he was doing something wrong. They are just upset b/c they didn't get something. - cont.

It is a crying shame that a child abuser is free and not rotting in jail, and a good Christian man is chastised for sharing God's Love. The Bible says to give with a joyful heart (which he did, my husband was at Celerman's too and the coins are on our counter at home) and to do for the least of these (which he tried to do at the grocery store). No where in the Bible does it say where to show this kindness, only that you DO it. Especially at this time of the year, it would do all of those who are degrading this man to remember this. If there were more souls like this, our country and world would not be in the shape it is in today.

I'm w/ you, TX Mom. That's one of the reasons I've quit giving. People don't appreciate anything. They want everything handed to them, then whine when they get it. I only give to animal shelters, at least they appreciate it!

Good Grief, this guy can't even do something nice for a stranger without people ripping him for going to the wrong place to do it or complaining that he did not gice away the reported amount. I hope he does not become so discouraged by the whiners that he stops spreading his Christmas kindness. I will be saying a prayer for him tonight.

I heard after he left Cellarmans, he went to the grocery store and bought several hundreds of dollars worth of groceries and gave them away. Some lovely person called the cops and he was detained for 2 hours and evaluated by a shrink. This is how we treat the good people of the world while the trash is treated well!

Who cares where the guy was at when this happened? At least the guy was being kind. I've ran into so many greedy, angry people this season, its down-right rediculous! Happy Holidays!

Why would you ask a stupid question like "Why didn't he go to McDonalds"? He did a good deed and if you are a waitress at a diner then your not much wealthier then McDonalds or Taco Bell or even a store clerk! Most of us struggle this time of year and a gift is a gift. You big whiney people!

Wonderful kindness, but, no $600.00 tip was left. He gave away new presidential dollars, gold in color, but not gold!

Posted by: Shannon Location: Sherman on Dec 17, 2008 at 05:46 PM
No waitress at Cellarman's received $600.00! It is a fact and should be made known!
