MURRAY COUNTY, Okla. ― A new ambulance is out of service after a rollover accident Tuesday on icy roads. Shelby Levins has the details of the accident and Murray County's future plans.

The accident happened Tuesday as the ambulance was responding to another weather related car accident. Murray County officials say the ambulance was going well below the posted speed limit when it hit a patch of ice, slid off the road, and flipped over.

Murray County says they are in the process of filing an insurance claim and expect the vehicle to be declared a total loss.

But the county says the damaged ambulance will not affect response time or level of emergency care. They say they already have a backup unit with all the same capabilities in place.

They say they were luckily the accident wasn't worse.

"What we're really fortunate is that my medics are fine. The call they were going on was taken care of by one of our backup units so there was no delay in that. Everybody left OK, and that was the most important thing," Murray County EMS director Brand Lancaster says.

One of the three medics that was in the ambulance at the time of the accident did fracture a couple of ribs, but he, along with the other two medics, are said to be OK.

Anoymous-First, it doesnt surprise me that idiots like you make the kind of comments. If you would listen to to story you would of heard they were doing well under the speed limit, and there was nothining that they could have done different. ITs sad there are people like you who dont realize what an important job we do. I just hope you never need our services!! But, I can assure you that you will get the same treatment everyone else gets.

Anonymous...why would you say that?? They were responding to an accident! Ambulances are supposed to respond as quick as possible, it isn't their fault the roads were slick...they just happen to have an accident also!!!

Keep your heads up crew. Sometimes there's nothing you can do when there's that kind of ice on the road. We appreciate the job you do and are glad everyone is ok.
