SHERMAN, Tex. ―A hospital officials say closed due to bankruptcy has reopened. Officials say the former Community Specialty Center is under new management. Our Rita Kotey was at the grand opening.

The new leaders say they have hopes of serving residents who are overlooked and do not receive the care they need.

Many residents came out Thursday to tour the life center specialty hospital at its grand opening.

Officials say after a year of planning and hard work, they are excited to be able to open their doors.

The new hospital is a non-profit organization made up of local volunteers. Officials say the building is on lease from Wilson N. Jones Hospital.

Officials say they will focus on skilled nurse care, inpatient rehabilitation, and therapy.

Officials say they are not an emergency facility, so they can only accept patients who meet certain criteria and those who have approval from their doctor.

Patients like Trenell Walker say rehabilitation facilities are important because they allow residents to recover at their own pace.

"For me, it’s just like hope, because one of the things that many people don’t have in this community is hope, and with the opening of this hospital it’s going to be so many opportunities not only to be served medically but spiritually, emotionally, and mentally," rehab patient Trenell Walker says.

Officials say the facility has nearly 60 private rooms. They hope to accept their first 10 patients by mid-January.

obviously you don't need long-term skilled nursing care- if you did, you wouldn't be so quick to spout off at the mouth

Please leave Rita Kotey on the noon news. She has a wonderful speaking voice that is easy to understand. She speaks slowly, cleary and distinctly - just what we need!
