RINGLING, Okla-- Changes were handed down Monday night to the Ringling Police Department during a special city council meeting.
The meeting wrapped up around 9:00 pm, after more than 2 hours. City officials and residents agreed it was a long meeting with an unusually high turnout. Additional Sheriff's deputies were even requested to be at the meeting.

There were a few big items on the agenda. The firing of one of two officers recently let go, the hiring of new reserve officers, and the action of the the Police Chief, Jeremy Wilson, in making those staffing changes.

Most of the meeting was spent behind closed doors in executive session, but in the end, the council decided Jeremy Wilson will remain the Police Chief. They also confirmed the hiring of three new officers, and the firing of the two former officers. But some people left the meeting concerned due process for those two officers relieved of their services was not upheld.

"I don't belive tonight they were given due process, we don't know why Officer Thomson was relieved of duty, we're not sure if proper procedure was followed, which is why I asked for a copy to be put in the Ringling Egle," said Mike Faulkner, who attended the meeting.

City officials say they can't get into the details of what heppened during the executive session, but basically the Police Chief makes recommendations to hire or fire new officers, then the City Council can confirm those decisions. They say that's what happened Monday night.
