DENISON, Tex. ―A Christmas bundle of joy cam late for an area couple who expected the birth of their daughter to come Friday, but they say their special delivery had to be made at the side of the road. Rita Kotey has the story.

Betty fine says when her water broke Friday morning, her mother’s intuition told her there was no way she could make it from her home in Savoy to Texoma Medical Center in Denison in time for the birth of her baby, so she was forced to have a road side delivery.

"All I wanted to do was make it through Christmas," Betty Fine says.

Betty Fine did make it through Christmas, but when her water broke, she got in the car, but did not make it to the hospital.

"We couldn’t go any further. We had to pull over," Fine says.

Fine, along with her sister-in-law, pulled over near the 654 exit on Highway 82.

"She arrived in a Dodge Dynasty car," Fine says.

Fine says her sister-in-law delivered the baby on the side of the road. She says they both were scared and called an ambulance for help.

"I had a robe and that’s what we wrapped her up in to keep her warm was a robe, and she laid on my chest until they got there," Fine says.

Fine says is thankful that this late Christmas present arrived safely, considering the circumstances.

"Things could have gone really wrong. She could have fell on something, and it could have went really bad, but I’m thankful it went really well," the new mother said.

Fine says when the baby gets older she will have an extra special story to tell her five sisters and brothers.

"I’m happy she's here. I was ready for her to be here."

Fine and the baby are doing well. They are now resting in Texoma Medical Center.

Fine says she is still debating on what to name her daughter, but she says she is leaning toward the name ‘Haylee’.

I'm sure they have named the baby already but I think Halo would be a cool nickname. How many Halos do you know? Kinda goes easy with Haylee. Haylee Halo :) Just a thought. Oh, and it's beyond John's scope to understand what any woman who has birthed a child and felt all the pain involved felt or what those who had to have a c-section know. John, that wasn't very nice of you. Having a baby is a miracle. You're here after all aren't you? lol

John, in case you don't know, several things could go wrong without the assist of a Dr. It was STUPID of you to say this story was stupid. AND I would say only a man would say that, but there are several men who know more than you do about child birth. I just wish YOU would have to go thru it and maybe you wouldn't have made that stupid comment. Congrats to the new baby and mother and of course the sister in law. And to John, GET A LIFE!!!!!!!

On 11-17-08 I delivered my grandson in the front seat of my car on the side of the road. My daughter had been to the doctor that day and the doctor said that it was not time. He was wrong. We were on the backroads to Paris,Tx. when her water broke. We had already call 911 and help was on the way. But Terry Allan was not going to wait. I pulled my car over beside the road and delivered my grandson. The cord was around his neck and I unwrapped it and he started crying. His daddy took off his shirt and I wrapped him up. I held him in my hands till Paris EMS arrived. Both mother and baby are doing well.

This is stupid, childbirth is natural, we have turned it into something that we only think a doctor can do.

Whose name is listed as the attending physician on the birth certificate??? The sister-in-law should be given the credit! Good job! Welcome new baby girl!
