Update - Local Soldiers Injured in Iraq

The following is a news release from the Oklahoma National Guard:
8-23-06 - Five Oklahoma Army National Guard Soldiers of the 1345th Transportation Company based in Midwest City and Enid were injured Wednesday, the 23rd of August shortly after midnight by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while performing their duties in Iraq.
Injured in the attack were SPC Mathew Herndon of Kingston, SGT Kelsey Birdsall of Marietta, and SPC Christon Stone of Midwest City, SGT Larhonda Johnson of Marietta, and SPC Jacob McNeely of Gainesville, TX. Johnson and McNeely were treated and returned to duty. The injuries sustained by the other three were more serious requiring further care. All the Soldiers are doing fine and are expected to fully recover. The Soldiers were able to communicate with their loved ones while they received initial treatment for their wounds.
The 1345th mobilized in March 2006 in support of the Global War on Terrorism. After additional training at Ft. Bliss Texas the unit deployed to Iraq in June for approximately one-year and immediately began performing convoy operations moving critical supplies and equipment in support of coalition forces in northern Iraq.
Herndon and Johnson are both Iraqi Freedom veterans having completed a previous one year deployment in 2003-2004 with the 1245th Transportation Company of Ardmore.
