GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. ― An anonymous tip led Grayson County Sheriff's investigators to $80,000 worth of stolen property. Mark Van Paasschen has more.

The tip actually involved the location of a Jeep stolen from Cooke County back in 2005. When deputies arrived on the scene Monday, they found that Jeep, as well as two other stolen vehicles.

Investigators found those vehicles on the property of 57-year-old Barney Elza England, located on England Road east of Denison.

Mr. England was arrested and taken to the Grayson County Jail on theft of property charges.

Deputies recovered that Jeep stolen from Cooke County back in may of 2005, a horse trailer with sleeping quarters stolen from Durant in 2005, and a travel trailer stolen in November 2008 from a home near Whitesboro.

The estimated value of the stolen vehicles comes to about $80,000.

"They did discover the Jeep inside the barn. The VIN numbers had been taken off of it, which indicates that someone at that location was going to be selling that Jeep or stripping it down for parts to get rid of those parts as well," Sgt. Rickey Wheeler of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office said.

England was released from jail Tuesday on $2,500 bond. Deputies say the investigation is ongoing as they follow up on other leads.

Perhaps this England fellow was a little craftier than most give him credit for. You know, in the movie "Usual Suspects," Verbal Kint, speaking about Kyser Soze, who turns out to be Kint himself (sorry if I spoiled the plot for those of you who haven't seen it), says, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist."

I HAVE KNOWN BARNEY OFF AND ON FOR BETTER THAN 30 YEARS BUT HAVING AND KEEPING STOLEN PROPERTY ON YOUR PROPERTY IS A CRIME.WHY WOULD ALL THE VIN NUMBERS BE GONE IF HE WAS INNOCENT,HE CANT BE THAT DUMB TO SAY I DIDNT KNOW THEY WERE STOLEN,LOOK AT ALL THOSE CHEAP CAR PARTS HE HAD FOR HIS BODY SHOP, I AM AFRAID HE GOT CAUGHT WITH HIS HAND IN THE COOKIE JAR AGAIN!!!!!!

Posted by: bob Location: denison on Jan 14, 2009 at 07:56 PM
Yea, he did some body work for me awhile back-gave me a good estimate: just good enough so I didn't have to pay the deductable. By the way, isn't he related to Raymond? NUF SAID!

Posted by: Trouble Location: Sherman on Jan 14, 2009 at 07:53 AM
Mike: I think you need to do a little proof reading before posting buddy. Your post makes YOU look like the IDIOT! Barney needs to pay for what he has done. Just because you think he's a "great person" don't mean he did nothing wrong.

Posted by: Leroy Location: Out There> on Jan 14, 2009 at 06:49 AM
Yeah Mike, You tell 'em! When I get through deciphering what you said, I may even agree with you (but I doubt it!).

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Jan 12, 2009 at 08:51 AM
Mike: Thank you for your brilliant and well stated opinion.

Posted by: Mike Location: Sherman on Jan 11, 2009 at 09:28 AM
Barney is a great person,I have none him for a long time,he would help you out any way he could,he would give you the last dollar he had if you needed it. you should,nt judge any one that,s for God to do.You people out there taking about him, should be put in jail,For the people talking about him,you need to shut your big mouth up.

You know, I loved my kids and grandkids, too. Heck...I'd even give the shirt off of my back. But that darn tax stuff was just too confusing for me!!!

K from Denison, You say that England trys to make an honest living, like the rest of us "Idots". Well let me tell ya something; This Idot works 8 hours a day, Mon. - Fri. Just what do you call "an honest living"?

Posted by: Mork Location: Ork on Jan 9, 2009 at 08:15 AM
I love you, you love me, we're just one big family!

Posted by: Me Location: Sherman on Jan 8, 2009 at 09:32 PM
This guy had 80000 worth of stolen property on his property and he didnt have any idea it was stolen? Ya right, He should be locked up..... I hope i serve on the jury cause if he isnt guilty of stealing it he is atleast guilty of having it and being in Possession, i do believe that possession is 9/10ths of the law isnt it?

Posted by: rick Location: sherman on Jan 8, 2009 at 08:35 PM
I stopped and looked at a tractor he had for sale about two years ago. Glad I didn't buy it because a detective may have come and picked it up from me.

Posted by: fred Location: east denison on Jan 8, 2009 at 08:25 PM
He's so innocent! Give me a break, he had stolen items on his property. He may not be a thief but looks like he deals with them and that's just as bad!

Posted by: Ralph Location: Denison on Jan 8, 2009 at 03:44 PM
Can someone please answer just one question for me: Do ya think he'll be tried under English law?

Posted by: G Location: DENISON on Jan 8, 2009 at 03:31 PM
"M" & "Zyklon" go take a SWIM and do us all a favor and don't come back!!!YOUR SO HATEFUL!! Do you even know this GREAT guy.

To whom it may concern, This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. People on here are rude on so many levels. This is the first story that I have decided to post on, because I know the man. He is a very nice, kinhearted person. My heart is very sad for him. Whether he commited the " indicates that these vehicles were going to be sold for parts" or not CRIME as the news caster put it - only time will tell. Further more this is under investigation which is by the way - the reason we have trials - Innocent until proven Guilty - or did we forget that? And last of all I agree - the reporter who handled that story was very tacky when he said "oddly enough he lives on England drive" - whos buisness is that - certainly not all of the idiots that are on this site - or all of TexomsaLand - Way to go KXII - !!! This stupid little article should be closed and dumped in the Red River...... as someone so nicely said of Barney- and as for the tipster - I'm not even going to get started!

Posted by: K Location: Denison on Jan 8, 2009 at 02:44 PM
You know i dont think anyone in this world is perfect, in fact im sure of it, but for the people who don't Barney ya'll need to get a good grip !! Barney is the type of person who would GIVE you the shirt off of his back and ask you do you need another one !! He is a very deicated father and LOVES his grand kids, who trys to make a honest living just like some you idots out there that are so negitive !! Im sure you know someone who committed a crime yesterday, did you turn them in??? So why judge a man when your dont even know him or know his side of the story !! Grow up, im sure this all a lot of you have to do judge people instead of trying to help people...

Posted by: Leroy Location: Out There> on Jan 8, 2009 at 02:32 PM
Great, ANOTHER innocent criminal. Are you people that are saying he is innocent, also saying that he just lets people keep stolen items at his house? Either way, he doesn't "seem" very smart for doing it.

Posted by: Red Location: Sherman on Jan 8, 2009 at 02:26 PM
Don't forget about me M, I am always full of hate. I am the one that wants to drown him in the Red River.

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Jan 8, 2009 at 01:11 PM
Zyklon. Are you full of hate??? Why didn't you tell me sooner????

Posted by: M Location: Denison on Jan 8, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Zyklon and OOTO, yall are full of hate, and we know where hate comes from. Yes we do know about the VIN situation, but the court reports don't show the full details of what, why and how. So again, I say to you hate worshipers, HUSH, when you don't begin to know a full story. You are making fools out of your self. People are laughing at you that know the truth.

BARNEY YOU BIG DUMBA**!!!!!!

Posted by: M Location: Denison on Jan 8, 2009 at 10:14 AM
x, the tall fence was there before his shop was. After the big guys get through with you, you naturally don't have a very good look to you. A lot, and I mean a LOT of people have roads named after them since they did the 911 maps. I can promise you the "tipster" is no saint. NOW,, does this answer any of you questions and comments? And to the reporter of this story, I thought it was a little tacky the way you said he lived on England Drive. I thought reporters wasn't suppose to be so smart mouth. There's two sides to every story. To the regulars that are on all the storys saying hangem etc, You are so heartless about people. I really am concerned about your soul.

Posted by: Zyklon B Location: Sherman on Jan 8, 2009 at 10:04 AM
CRUCIFY HIM!!!!!!!!

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Jan 8, 2009 at 08:34 AM
Ummm...people....those of you who are saying England couldn't have done this, may I have your attention for a moment. You DO know that England was found guilty of tampering with VIN numbers back in 1993, don't you?! Here is a link to the case: http://24.117.89.66:3004/Scripts/UVlink.isa/grayson/WEBSERV/CriminalSearch?action%253Dview%26track%253D81818. Kind of sounds like he had everyone fooled with his wolf in sheep's clothing bit!

I HAVE A TALL FENCE AROUND OUR HOME AND LAND BUT THAT DOESEN'T MEAN IM A THIEF, AND NEITHER IS BARNEY ENGLAN!!!

Posted by: x Location: north on Jan 7, 2009 at 06:43 PM
Now we know why there's a tall fence behind england's body shop where nobody can see what's inside it.

Posted by: D Location: Denison on Jan 7, 2009 at 05:44 PM
Barney is a wonderful man. Very kind and would do anything for anyone. Only fault I know is he may be too trusting. Bless you Barney.

Posted by: G Location: DENISON on Jan 7, 2009 at 05:04 PM
THIS IS A WOUNDERFUL MAN. HE'S DONE WORK FOR ME AND NOT EVEN CHARGE ME DUE TO BEING A SINGLE DAD AND NOT HAVING THE MONEY TO PAY AT THAT TIME, WHEN HE'S A FAMILY MAN ALSO AND NEEDS THE MONEY TOO! BLESS YOU BARNEY FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR OUR TOWN

Posted by: Zyklon B Location: Sherman on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:50 PM
Where is my post? It was decent and congratulatory to law enforcement. Put this guy away.

Posted by: Me Location: Denison on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Harry; where you been? He didn't do a serious crime. Also he hasn't been found guilty. DUH! And to all you other smart mouths you obviously don't know him or you wouldn't be so nasty. He is my hero.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: DENSION on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:31 PM
I've knowen this man since I was a child. He's one of the most trusting people in this town and comes from a very good family. If you don't know him personally "SHUT UP" AND GET A LIFE!!!

Posted by: Opinionated Location: Ardmore on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:06 PM
He had $80,000 worth of stolen property in his yard. Are you two saying he didn't know it was there? The trucks and trailers, they just popped up out of no where? If he didn't do the actual stealing, then he is still involved because he knowingly let them hide the stolen property there. He is just as guilty.

Posted by: Leroy Location: Sherman on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:03 PM
In response to "Harry": "Committing a crime used to mean that you had to suffer the consequences by going to jail. Not anymore, I guess." Harry, you should make a trip to the library or at least read online how our justice system works. I promise you there is a reason we have what are called "trials". This is where "juries" determine if the arrested person is guilty or not.

Posted by: Looks like on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:12 PM
Looks like he ticked someone off.

Posted by: outa town Location: north on Jan 7, 2009 at 01:04 PM
this is not his first rodeo

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 11:47 AM
i wonder if he is the guy who stole my vech. almost a year ago, that no one has done anything about!!!

Posted by: r Location: ardmore on Jan 7, 2009 at 11:10 AM
The tipster is the kind of citizen we need!! They should receive a generous reward!

Posted by: Red Location: Sherman on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:15 AM
They need to put him in that horse trailer and push him off that big bluff by Gainesville that overlooks the Red River, and let him sink to the bottom.

Posted by: chris Location: pottsboro on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:14 AM
So does this mean if I become a crook I can have my very own road named after me to? Too funny

Posted by: Leroy Location: Out There> on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:34 AM
Man, I HATE thieves!! Whoever did this, ought to be horse whipped. However, with the economy the way it is, I expect to see more of it.

Posted by: xx Location: Denison on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:04 AM
looks crooked?! WOW do you always judge people by their looks? do you know him? he really is a nice man, involved in a bad situation.

Posted by: Harry Location: Grayson on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:55 AM
Released on bond? How serious does the crime have to be before the law keeps them locked up in jail? Commiting a crime used to mean that you had to suffer the consequences by going to jail. Not anymore, I guess.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Denison on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:48 AM
I know Barney and he is a very nice man, and I don't believe he would do this. I hope the right person gets the punishment! He is so nice he trust anybody, obviously too trustworthy.

Posted by: anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:29 AM
I've known this guy all my life! He's innocent. There isn't any proof that he was the one who stole the vehicles in question!

Posted by: x Location: G-ville on Jan 6, 2009 at 08:22 PM
