GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. ― The 2009 Texas Legislative Session kicks off next week, and some Grayson County residents will have the chance to experience it firsthand. Rashi Vats has more on the unique opportunity.
The Sherman Chamber of Commerce is organizing a group from Grayson County to take part in a program called “Legislative Days.”
Paticipants will travel with folks from Denton and Cooke counties to Austin, where they will get the chance to meet state officials and voice their concerns.
This is the first year Grayson County is taking part in Legislative Days. So far, about 30 to 40 people have signed up to make the trip to the state capitol including Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum.
Sherman Chamber officials say this is a chance for anyone interested to learn about Texas government and participate in the decision making process.
“We’re trying to get public officials business owners and concerned residents who want to go down and have a dialogue with each other about issues coming up this year in the Legislative Session, along with expressing those to our state reps,” says April Patterson of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce says.
Registration fee is $100 through Friday, January 9. However, if you register after Friday, you will be charged a $25 late fee.
