Wednesday and Thursday are Weather Aware days due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall. Beware of flooded road-ways and never drive around barricades or into water more than six inches deep. High rainfall rates may reduce visibility and also increase the risk of hydroplaning. Turn around, don’t drown! Isolated strong thunderstorms may develop late Wednesday afternoon, but widespread severe weather does not appear to be likely at this time.
A local teacher is taking local classroom lessons to a national level. Sherman fine arts teacher Beth Hubbert is writing for a national magazine.
The Perrin Elementary School teacher is published in the August-September issue of "School Arts," a magazine for art educators of all levels. In her article, Hubbert highlights a quilt art project she's used in kindergarten classes for nearly 13 years. She says the lesson increases motor and math skills and brings the youngest students up to speed on basic kindergarten skills.
"School Arts" magazine has commissioned Hubbert to write two more articles to be published in future issues.
