POTTSBORO, Tex. ― Our nation will have a new president next Tuesday, and some Pottsboro Boy Scouts are getting ready to head to Washington to see the inauguration in person. Rashi Vats has more.
It’s a trip that these Scouts have been dreaming of for a long time.
Eleven-year-old Boy Scout Wade Walters of Troop 911 in Pottsboro is excited to go with 21 other scouts in his Boy Scout troop to see the president take the Oath of Office.
"It’s a once in a lifetime thing going to Washington D.C. and marching in the parade."
The troop has been raising money for the past seven months, and after help from family, friends, local businesses and community organizations, they raised the $41,000 to pay for the trip.
"This is something that would be the ultimate thrill for a scout to represent the Boy Scouts of America and also get to participate in the inauguration of the president of the United States. We are very excited about this opportunity," Shannon Thomas, Scoutmaster of Troop 911 says
And if the Scouts meet president-elect Barack Obama, Scout Jake Walters would say…
"Good luck, and I hope he does what he says he can do."
The Scouts and nine leaders leave Friday for an experience they say will be historical.
