09-04-06 - At least one suspect is still on the run after cashing forged checks in Love County over the Labor Day weekend.
Authorities still are not sure where the checks came from, but they do know the suspects were able to cash some checks at Banc First in Marietta, walking away with around $4000.
Authorities say they then tried to cash the checks at First National Bank in Marietta, but instead of walking inside, they walked up to the window, where cashiers began processing the transaction, but a delay spooked the suspects, and they ran. The tellers notified authorities, and not long after, the suspects were spotted on the Interstate around mile marker 18. That’s when they ran into the woods nearby, but shortly after, police arrested 24-year-old Victor Silva. Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for a second suspect.
FBI agents were also called out to assist in the search Saturday because the incident was initially reported as a bank robbery. However, police say the suspects did not threaten anyone at the bank.
