ARDMORE, Okla. ― While economic experts say national retail sales continue to slump, consignment stores say business is booming. Shelby Levins has more.
The Bargain Lady Consignment Shop in Ardmore has been in business for more than ten years, but the shop says this past year's sales broke records, and business has been booming.
Shopper Pam Bryant says she got hooked on the savings of consignment shops like the Bargain Lady years ago.
“I spend money like crazy anyway, but this is still a way I can have cute clothes and I can still do like I like to do.”
Pam is hardly the only one. Emily King has been working at the Bargain Lady Resale Shop for more than two years and says it's the busiest she's ever seen.
“With the economy the way it is, they just want to make sure they have money for everything they need. Saving money buying clothes helps with that and then they money they get selling the clothes will also help.”
Pam says the savings makes her feel better, especially in the current uncertain economic times.
“It’s more relaxing to know it's not costing you an arm and a leg to come to a place like this than it is at the mall.”
From the number of other people we saw checking out, many people seem to agree.
“I think it's really good for a lot of the people. A lot people like really nice stuff and they can't go out and get it, so they'll come to place like this where they can afford it.”
With savings of more than 75 percent, it is something Pam says she will continue to believe in.
“You can get it for $5, $10 and you go up there and it's $50 for the same exact same thing, so I’m a real believer.”
