MEAD -- A home on the south side of Mead, OK burned to the ground this afternoon.

West Bryan County Volunteer Fire Dept. along with Silo, Durant, Lakewood and Calera Fire Departments were called to the corner of Perch and Hilltop around 2 p.m. The initial call was described a grass fire behind a residence.

West Bryan Co. Fire Chief Josh Dufur said that when his fire fighters arrived on the scene, the house at that location was fully engulfed.

He also said, high winds carried embers of the fire to areas up to an eighth of a mile away igniting between 6 and 8 grass fires.

The owners of the destroyed home were in the process of moving out, but were not home at the time of the fire. Nobody was injured, and no other structures were affected.
