PUSHMATAHA COUNTY, Okla. ― After a man was murdered on his own property near Rattan earlier this month, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Pushmataha County Sheriff's Deputies took another step forward in their investigation on Monday. Mark Van Paasschen has the latest.

The search for a killer continues in Pushmataha County. It was 10 days ago Monday that family members found Jackie Ray Dellinger shot to death on his property just south of Rattan. Now the search for evidence continues.

Two independent divers from Lamar County, Texas, joined investigators on the Dellinger property Monday as they scoured two small ponds on the premises.

"We don't have any specific evidence that we are looking for. We're just looking for anything to further this case and bring it to a conclusion," Pushmataha County Sheriff Jim Duncan says.

Duncan says that although they, along with the OSBI, have conducted several interviews, hard evidence in this case has been slow in coming, but that they remain diligent.

"We’re trying to do everything we can. We're taking every precaution to get who did this horrible crime and bring it to a conclusion and prosecute them."

Duncan went on to say investigators have not recovered a murder weapon. That bit of information that has area residents like Eddie Murlburt a little uneasy. Hurlburt says Dellinger was a good and honest man and was shocked to hear of his murder.

"Everybody seemed to like him. I would run on to him over the past 35 or 40 years and visit with him," Hurlburt said.

Debbie Tucker was a neighbor of Dellinger’s.

"He worked for P.S.O. [Public Service Company of Oklahoma] for a lot of years. He was a well respected guy."

The top story of the Choctaw County Times talks about Dellinger's murder a couple of weeks ago. That's why law enforcement officials say that investigating this case is made all that more difficult. It seems like everyone in the area is anxious for an arrest to be made.
