What was bad news for folks in Jefferson County could be some long awaited good news for Ladonia, Texas.

Since moving all of their detainees out of the detention center in Jefferson County, the INS, now part of the homeland security department, has shown a new found interest in Ladonia.

You'll remember the city has been hoping to build the 500-bed facility for the last two years but could not get a commitment from the INS.

But last week, Mayor Leon Hurse got a phone call from the INS who says they're ready to talk again.

The INS will not commit to housing prisoners in Ladonia until the facility is built by a private engineering firm, who would also operate the facility.
