SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - A judge today sentenced former nurse Vickie Dawn Jackson to life imprisonment for the deaths of ten hospital patients in the North Texas town of Nocona.
Jackson had pleaded no contest yesterday to capital murder. She was sentenced today after prosecutors presented their evidence to a judge in a brief hearing in San Angelo.
F-B-I Special Agent David Burns testified that Jackson seemed angered by patients who needed more care. Despite her plea, Jackson maintains her innocence. Her attorney
says she pleaded no contest to avoid a trial because she didn't want her daughter to be called to testify against her.
The case was moved from Montague County in North Texas to Tom Green County in West Texas because of what a judge determined to be prejudicial publicity around the case.
