Atoka Memorial Building New Hospital

10-5-06 - The Atoka Memorial Hospital will be building a brand new facility, thanks to the help of a federal grant and a private bond. Their current location was built in 1959 and is inadequate to their current needs.

The hospital board of directors announced that they have secured $13 million in funding from USDA rural development and a separate private bond fund.

This is the first critical access hospital in the state of Oklahoma to receive a USDA direct loan.

A lack of space, cramped rooms and a leaking roof are just some of the reasons officials say the move is necessary.

Atoka is the first in Oklahoma, but more and more rural hospitals across the country are making a switch to better facilities.

The new 25 bed Atoka Memorial Hospital will be constructed on Highway 3 just southwest of the airport.

Officials say they hope to break ground on the building in late December or early January and complete the project by the end of next year.
