Several thousand students from across southeastern Oklahoma rode into Durant on Tuesday to take part in the Choctaw Nation DARE Rodeo.
DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It's the third time program sponsors have teamed up with the Choctaw Nation
More than 7,000 middle school students from across the area took part. The message is a simple one: stay away from drugs and alcohol.
There were numerous special guests who spoke, including Governor Brad Henry, a world champion bull rider and two astronauts.
This rodeo doesn't just happen. It's taken about eight months to plan.
About 200 volunteers from the Choctaw Nation were on hand today helping out, and dozens of local law enforcement officers were also here meeting and greeting the kids.
