10-11-06 - A National Guardsman from Marshall County who was wounded this summer in Iraq was awarded the Purple Heart on Wednesday.
Specialist Matthew Herndon is still recovering from wounds he suffered during an IED explosion in Iraq.
The Kingston man had injuries to his arms that required surgery. But the 23-year old has been recuperating at home, and on Wednesday, his friends and family gathered at the Powell Church of Christ.
Specialist Kristen Stone was also there. She was injured in the same attack and drove from Midwest City to see Herndon receive his medal.
This is the 11th Purple Heart awarded to an Oklahoma national guard soldier since the war began.
