10-11-06 - A World War II veteran has received medals of appreciation from Russia for a mission he took part in more than 60 years ago. A.A. Jeffrey is now a retired farmer in Powell, Oklahoma. But during WWII, he was a young soldier on a special operations mission on the eastern front of Russia.
Recently, he found a package in his mailbox that brought back those memories. Inside were two gold medals and a letter from the Russian embassy in Washington D.C.
Jeffrey is the only member of the 14-man special mission who is still alive. He has spoken with the widow of one of the other soldiers – she also received the medals.
He still won’t talk about what the top secret mission was, but the veteran will say that his platoon saved a lot of lives and destroyed property.
