Pauls Valley Mom Reacts to Murders

The following is a Press Statement from Misty Landers, released on
10-18-06 at 5:30 P.M.

I want everyone to forgive him (Jay Landers). We were having problems and he thought he had lost everything and I know that’s why he did it.

I just want everyone to know that I have forgiven him and my Babies are in a good place. I just don’t want him blamed and I don’t want him talked bad about because he was good father and he loved his kids very much.

I know something in his mind went wrong for him to have done this because he would have never hurt them. Everything he did was for his kids. Every time he worked over time. His days off he would take them places, he would buy them stuff, it did not matter. He just thought his life was over because he did not know how to go on with out his wife kids.

A fund has been set up at the I.B.C. Bank in PaulsValley for donations to assist the family.

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (AP) - Investigators say they've found no
criminal history or mental illness in the background of a man who
killed his three children then himself near Pauls Valley.

Authorities say it appears marital problems led Jay Dee Landers
Senior to shoot 8-year-old Jay junior, 5-year-old Derrick and
4-year-old Katana yesterday. Landers then lined the children's
bodies up a bed, called his wife and left a message telling her
what he'd done then set their home on fire and killed himself.

Friends, neighbors and co-workers have told investigators Landers was quiet and seemed like a loving father but was upset by a separation last week from his wife Misty.

Misty Landers has told investigators the children asked to stay with their father Monday night and she saw nothing unusual when he picked them up.

Misty Landers is now hospitalized.
