A Denison developer now owns a part of Lake Murray in southern Oklahoma. Developer Matt Looney reached a deal with owners Tom and Jan Burchfeld Wednesday night for the Lake Murray Marina.
While critics fear his plans will take away from the small-town feel of the lake Loney says that's not in his blueprint.
Lake Murray’s clear water and beautiful scenery was too good for Looney to pass up. Once the Oklahoma Tourism Department gave the Burchfeld's the go ahead to sell the marina earlier this month he began negotiating. His first step is to give the place a tune up.
While boat rentals will increase slightly to compete with other marinas in the area, Looney says boaters should not expect drastic expansion any time soon. Although Looney wouldn't talk dollar amounts, he says this is his biggest investment ever. Tourism officials expected it to bring more than 5 million dollars.
