Businesses Claim Rip-Off in Texoma

10-25-06 - At least four Durant businesses claim they were scammed by an advertising salesman. It happened earlier this month when business owners say the ad rep approached them about sponsoring an Extreme Fight in January.

The say a man was selling promotional space for the event with radio spots, complimentary tickets, and other perks at a low price for a limited time.

Four businesses we spoke to bought sponsorship. But when they called Choctaw Coliseum, where the salesman said the event would be held, they found out no event was ever scheduled.

The salesman worked for a promotional company, Sunstar Promotions, based out of Oklahoma City. That company says he stopped working there in the last two weeks.

At least two business owners bought sponsorship for about $500, but they say this is more than a money issue. Two of the business owners we talked to filed police reports.

Sunstar Promotions didn't have a comment to make but said the employee worked for the company for about 2 months. They said the situation is still under investigation and they're working closely with police.
