BONHAM, TX -- It's been a little more than 24 hours since a deadly fire tore through an apartment complex in Bonham, and there remains more questions than answers.

It's always a trying time for anyone who loses their home in a fire, but it's made even more difficult when a friend and their family are lost as well.

Now, among many of the victims, frustrations run high.

Flames flared at the Bonham Village Apartments on Sunday. A day later, tempers flared.

"Bonham has the sorriest fire department I've ever seen in my life," said Willie Ford, a fire victim.

"I served in the United States Navy. I was an A.B.H. I was Fire and Rescue. From what I saw of Bonham's fire department, their techniques and training, they've got a very bad, piss poor level of training. It was pitiful," said Marlon Wilson, another fire victim.

Victims of the weekend inferno are enraged about the way they felt their fire department handled the situation. In fact, they say that the Bonham trucks weren't even the first ones on the scene.

Wilson: "I called Bonham four times before they got there, and it should be on record."
MVP: "How long did it take before they showed up? Do you know?"
Wilson: "I'd say anywhere from about 7 to 10, maybe 15 minutes. Then after they got there it was 10 to 15 minutes before they got started."

Ford: "Ector beat them there. Ivanhoe beat them there. Then when they did get there, they didn't start spraying water until the place was up in flames."
MVP: "So Bonham was the 3rd department on scene?"
Ford: "Well they were there, but they hadn't started putting water on it."

9-1-1 CALL: "It's blazing bad now. It's caught the whole apartment, the whole set."

The City though, has a different story. It says from the time it got that first 9-1-1 call at 1:46 p.m., the Fire Dept. was quick to respond.

"Any rumors about the City of Bonham not being the first responders is incorrect. We were the first on the scene. We responded very aggressively. It is important to note that by the time the first call came in, the fire was fully involved," said Corby Alexander, Bonham City Manager.

9-1-1 CALL: "Get out, get out! C'mon! Run! Go! Go! Go! Is there anyone on the other side, get everyone out!"

"Our first call was recieved regarding our fire at 1:48 p.m. We had our first piece of equipment on scene by 1:51 p.m. So it was approximately a 3 minute response time," said Alexander.

But it wasn't just the response that has Wilson and Ford frustrated.

"I have never seen a situation where you come to a fire unprepared. Then when you have tenants telling you that there is a secondary fire starting, and the firemen down there are just looking at you and not even paying attention to the fire whatsoever," said Wilson.

"I'm not too pleased about that. It's awful. A lot of people are going to lose their homes around here if the fire department doesn't get more training," said Ford.

"I don't want to speak derrogatorily towards anyone's opinion, certainly, but I do know that we have a very dedicated force and a very well trained force. They take these instances very seriously," said Alexander.

Either way, one thing is certain, a mother and her two young children are dead, and 15 Bonham families are now without homes.

Many of those two dozen or so affected families spent time today at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church in Bonham.

The Red Cross set up there to help victims get started with the aid process.

They say that roughly 32 men, women, and children were affected by the blaze.

On Monday, volunteers helped victims sign up to receive food, clothing, and any medications that they may have lost in the fire.

The Red Cross also says that it will help people find new apartments and even furniture once they move into a new place.

As for the family of the three people who died in the fire, the family of Brittany Dederick has set up a fund to help cover the final expenses for Brandy Chesser and her two children.

You can make contributions at the Fannin Federal Credit Union in Bonham.

One other note, the State Fire Marshal inspected the devastated apartment complex this morning as the search for a cause continues.
