GAINESVILLE, TX -- After many hours of deliberation four Cooke County Commissioners spent Monday to narrow down 12 candidates for county judge, the court voted current Cooke County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4 John Roane as Cooke County’s new judge Tuesday morning.

The court voted three-to-one in favor of Roane around 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. Roane is currently the Cooke County Justice of the Peace for Precinct Four and will soon take the seat of county judge on May 29, which is current judge Bill Freeman's last day.

"It was relief if nothing else because there were so many other good people that had applied for this job. I was very relieved that the commissioners had decided upon me," Roane said.

Cooke County's website lists Roane as a Valley View resident.
