New Logos Unveiled for East Central

The following is a news release from East Central University:

East Central University introduced its new tiger and academic logos Friday during an unveiling ceremony for students, faculty, alumni and the community.

ECU's official tiger "spirit" logo will be used mainly for athletic teams, student activities and events. The second new logo, featuring the letters ECU and a single stripe representing the university's tiger heritage, will be for academic use in publications and other materials.

A new stationery letterhead, an official font, a slightly brighter orange and a new slogan also have been selected for exclusive use in university materials.

"I am excited about having these new marks to set ECU apart as we work to advance the university," said ECU President Richard Rafes. "We now have an official tiger and other logos that will instantly be recognized as associated with East Central University," he added.

Jacob Snovel, audio visuals assistant in ECU's Linscheid Library, designed the tiger for the spirit logo.

The new logos also will appear on ECU's first light pole banners, new spirit flag, official university flag and stadium flags that will be displayed on game days. Light pole banners will be installed on the campus and on streets adjoining the campus.

ECU's band, cheerleaders and dance team participated in the program as well as representatives from the Chickasaw Nation, the City of Ada and ECU's student body, administration and faculty.

Developing the new logos was one of Rafes' first initiatives when he became ECU's seventh president on July 1. A committee composed of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members was appointed to research, develop and design the new materials. Input also was received from placing suggested designs on the ECU website.
