Memorial Day more than holiday for Johnston County cemetery
MILBURN, OK -- The Condon Grove cemetery here inters many veterans, but without financial donations, the landmark would likely wither away and deteriorate like so many across the country. Thanks to the generosity of many, that won't happen anytime soon.

MILBURN, OK -- The Condon Grove cemetery here inters many veterans, but without financial donations, the landmark would likely wither away and deteriorate like so many across the country. Thanks to the generosity of many, that won't happen anytime soon.
Condon relies on Memorial day, and stakeholders use the special time to bring in much needed funds to honor veterans and non-veterans buried here.
"It's important because that's how the cemetery is kept up, through the donations and work of volunteers and people who have family here," Elaine Hogue said.
Volunteers raise over a quarter of the year's budget during the holiday weekend to help the city's cemetery board. While people like Buddy Parks clean the lots of family members, they say nothing would be possible without the board.
"We appreciate the effort and the work that's put in by the board that oversees and takes care of the mowing and maintenance," Parks said.
Volunteers say it can costs as much as $1,500 to mow the entire cemetery. The city of Milburn also uses donations to complete construction projects, and while the old outhouse on site doesn't get much use, the rest of the landmark does thanks to donations from strangers and friends alike.
