11-9-06 - Political candidates are being encouraged to get their campaign signs cleaned up soon. In some cities, they could face large fines if they don't.
When candidates applied for a sign permit in Ardmore they were required to pay a $200 deposit.
If they don't pick up their posters within five days of Election Day, they could forfeit that money.
In the past city workers were forced to clean up the mess and candidates were never charged.
But if things get out of hand this year officials say it may lead to that.
The county has no ordinance in place to force candidates to pick up signs; commissioners are just hoping everyone complies.
They say most of the time it's the state politicians not the locals who leave signs behind.
