Teenagers Injured in Atoka Co. Wreck

11-14-06 - Three teenagers were injured in a car accident there in Atoka County, early Tuesday morning.

It happened about 12:30 AM on a county road just seven miles west of Caney. Troopers say 18-year-old Thomas Gold of Lehigh was driving a Chevy pickup, when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed a county intersection, and slammed into a tree.

Gold was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Two passengers in the car were also injured: 17-year-old John Ellis and 15-year-old Kyra Carpenter, both of Coalgate.

Ellis was taken to an Oklahoma City Hospital where he's in serious condition with a head injury. Carpenter was treated and released from Atoka Memorial Hospital. Troopers say she was the only person wearing a seatbelt.
