Bearcat Player Wins State Honor

Plano, Texas, Nov. 16, 2006 – Waymon James, running back for Sherman High School, who led his team to victory last week with 300 yards and four touchdowns, today was recognized as the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week for Class 4A.

The Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program honors one student-athlete in six of the state’s athletic classifications every week during the regular season for their accomplishments on and off the field. The award was launched for the 2006 season to celebrate the strong ties between Texans and high school football, as well as Ford’s recognition as the “Truck Line of Texas” for an unprecedented eighth consecutive year.

Waymon played a key role in his team’s 48-44 win over archrival Denison on November 10. He rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries. He had three second half TDs including the game-winning 4-yard run with less than two minutes remaining. Off the field, Waymon maintains a B average, runs track, and participates in Great Days of Service where he’s involved in various community service activities.
