Local Dinners Celebrate Thanksgiving

11-23-06 – Several local churches and organizations celebrated Thanksgiving by helping those who are less fortunate.

The Key Memorial United Methodist Church is in their second year of serving free thanksgiving dinner. Organizers saw a steady stream of people come in. Neighbors even came early to be the first ones to dig in. Church members volunteered and served at the event.

In Madill, folks at the Baptist Church making sure everyone had a warm meal this Thanksgiving. Around a hundred volunteers got up at dawn to prepare the meal. One couple stayed up all night smoking the turkey. Those who attended left with a sack full of groceries and bags of clothes from the church's closet.

For the 14th straight year, members of the Ardmore Moose Lodge and Elk's club teamed up to help those in need. Dozens of volunteers showed up at 3AM to cook and deliver meals for more than a thousand shut-ins in Ardmore. It takes $3,000 to $6,000 to prepare the feast. Private donors and foundations pitch in hundreds of dollars every year to make it happen.
