Fire Hits Gainesville Outlet Mall

12-1-06 - A fire at the Gainesville Factory Stores damaged a vacant building. Firefighters say it began around 8:30pm Thursday night. Police chief Carl Dunlap says firefighters contained the flames to the vacant building. No other part of the mall was damaged.

The mall suffered smoke damage last spring when a lightning strike started a fire in the roof of one of the buildings. That was the same night that high winds and storms damaged several businesses and homes in the I-35 corridor.

No word yet what started Thursday night's fire.
